A failed release for the game after a box office fail for the movie - Disney dropped the case and never picked it up.Ģ.0 is one of my favorite game ever. The latter completely overshadowed the former, both in IP and in marketing. Tron 2.0 came at the same time of World of Warcraft.
It also doesn't help that Disney has declared it "non-canon" and basically tries to pretend it no longer exists. But there will also be those that never do. They'd discover it later, if they wanted to dig deeper into the franchise. If Disney hadn't gotten cold feet and released both a sequel film and a game at the same time back then, TRON 2.0 probably would have been more warmly received. Once people realized it was a game, and not a film sequel, there was a kind of backlash among the fandom at the time. A lot of people thought it was going to be the long awaited film sequel. There was a vague teaser for something called TRON: Killer App on the 20th Anniversary DVD release of TRON. There were actually plans to show ads in movie theaters as part of Disney film releases, to promote the game. A lot of people didn't know it existed, even back at its release. I think there are three reasons for that.ĭisney didn't market it well enough. Even at the time of its release, TRON 2.0 was overlooked. So I've been around since the early days, observing fan reaction to it. I'm one of the people working on the Killer App Mod, and I've been a fan of TRON 2.0 since it was first released.
